Oscar Mayer Wienie 500 Sets Six Regional Hot Dogs to Race
The second annual Oscar Mayer Wienie 500 will feature six hot dog-themed vehicles racing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this Friday. Coverage begins at 2 p.m. ET on FOX and FOX One. The event pairs the regional hot dog styles with their corresponding Wienermobiles in a short-format competition.
The field includes the Chi Dog representing the Midwest, the New York Dog for the East, the Chili Dog from the South, the Seattle Dog from the Northwest, the defending champion Slaw Dog from the Southeast, and the newly added Corn Dog selected through fan voting. Last year the Slaw Dog overtook the Chi Dog on the final lap to secure victory.
The race highlights different American hot dog preparations such as poppy seed buns with mustard and sport peppers for Chicago-style or cream cheese and slaw for other regional preferences. No licensed sportsbooks are accepting wagers on the outcome, as the event has not received regulatory approval for gaming.
Viewers are expected to select a favorite based on personal or regional connection to a particular hot dog style. The winner will be determined on the track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
